ABOUT THE ARTIST... Anne - Marie Sloan was born and educated in South Africa and spent much of her formative childhood in the Transkei.
Brought up in Port St Johns, the tangible and majestic backdrop of nature provided a constant but shifting experience of tumultuous and, at other times, subtle natural energy exchanges. These gave her impetus to paint and study art at the University of the Witwatersrand.
Having taught art in High schools around Cape Town for a number of years, Anne has recently taken up painting full time and has been re-exploring the things that caught her attention as a child - the opalescent sheen on shells, the drifting and changing patterns in clouds that metamorphose into thought forms and the open natural spaces that resonate with palpable energy.
Painting, for her, is a meditative experience, which shuts out the clamor and stress of day to day living and it provides the activity to hold a thought for long enough to give it form.
